Since 1992, Blue Thumb has collected data from over 300 streams across Oklahoma, with more than 100 sites still being actively monitored. Although the organization had decades of high-quality data, it was dispersed across many different locations.

The Problem
The Solution
After analyzing the data structure and quality issues, I created a normalized database schema to store chemical, physical, and biological data for each monitoring site. I implemented automated data cleaning and validation scripts to identify and correct inconsistencies, outliers, and missing values. I then built a dashboard using Python and Plotly to visualize water quality trends and make the data accessible to non-technical audiences. The dashboard will allow key stakeholders to make data-driven decisions about water resource management in Oklahoma.
The system automatically batches and processes real-time volunteer submissions through a Google Cloud pipeline integrated with ArcGIS Survey123. I continue to maintain and optimize the dashboard with fellow Blue Thumb volunteer Miguel Ingram.
